A Brief History of 90s K-Pop

A lot of people would say that they find K-Pop nothing but just regular old pop music, but this is definitely not the case. It took a long time for K-Pop to reach to the United States because it was only exclusive to South Korea, but thanks to the evolution of technology and media archives we now know the origins of how K-Pop first started out and how it has evolved into one of the most popular music genres of all time. Over the years I have seen many drastic changes to how K-Pop has evolved through social media and magazines. And someone like myself who has been in to K-Pop since the age of nine I have gained knowledge and did some researching to help give this speech of the following three main points; popularity, evolution, and fashion. So today, we’re going to go over how nineties K-Pop came to be and how it was a game changer for many other artists today.

Before we get to how K-Pop came to be, we first need to give an example of a K-Pop group who blasted off into leading the new music genre we all know today.

Who Was NRG?

New Radiancy Group, also known as NRG in shorter terms, was one of the first of many K-Pop boy groups in the First-Generation Korean Wave of music in South Korea. They debuted on October 28, 1997 with five members who are named; Lee Sungjin, Chun Myunghoon, Noh Yoomin, Moon Sunghoon, and Kim Hwansung who sadly passed on June 15, 2000 due to a viral infection (About NRG.
